(8/17/10) *Compton's J BOOG is on fire! *TOSH 1 son of the reggae icon Winston Hubert McIntosh aka PETER TOSH is making his own mark in music today!  Born in Kingston, JA and having lived most of his life in Boston, Tosh 1's life was greatly impacted when his legendary father was murdered at the age of seven.  Seeking a way to let out his feelings Tosh 1 turned to music and was heavily influenced by both his uncle BUNNY WAILER and the hip hop sounds which permeate the US.  Tosh states "my mission is to deliver a message of truth without compromise in the language that I am most familar with: the language of the struggle."  With his debut album on the way Tosh-1 is ready to deliver that message and we wish him every success! (7/12/10)   *Sad news from JA, the 'Godfather of Dancehall' SUGAR MINOTT passed away on Sunday, July 11th in Kingston at age 54.  He had been suffering from heart disease.. His amazing career beging with the group AFRICAN BROTHERS then solo recording his first album for COXSONE DODD at Studio One.  He had a string of massive hits including 'No Vacancy,' 'Jamming in the Street,' ''Rub a Dub Sound,' 'Buy off the Bar' and 'Devil's Pinckney.'  He also played a big role in the careers of artists such as JUNIOR REID, YAMI BOLO, GARNETT SILK & more with his musical school Youth Promotion.  R.I.P. you will be missed dearly!

(6/8/10)  *GYPTIAN is on fire! with his hit single "Hold Yuh" running the dancehall & the remix featuring NICKI MINAJ tearing up the underground, Gyptian has reached another level! The song premiered on BET's 106 & Park as the 'New Joint of the Day' and the video has been added to the rotation of MTV2 'Sucker Free Sundays Countdown.'  Nicki, born of Trinidian parents is making quite a splash in the hip hop game and the two killed it together at the Hot 97 Summer Jam in NYC.  His album 'Hold You' is set for release on July 20th big up Gyptian & VP Records miles ahead!

(5/26/10)  *TOOTS AND THE MAYTALS new album 'Flip and Twist' was just released as the legend began his annual US tour. The album was released on Toots' own D&F Music label and is climing the charts on Amazon and iTunes. Toots was recently voted #71 of the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time by Rolling Stone Magazine, and as you may know is the man who invented the word Reggae in his 1968 classic "Do the Reggae." (5/9/10)  *San Diego's TRIBAL SEEDS are touring the West Coast in May supporting 'The Harvest' hitting CA, AZ, CO, UT, ID, OR, WA & NV leading up to the CA Roots Festival on May 29th in Monterey, CA. (3/14/10)  *It is certainly a tough market for Dancehall artists today, with BOUNTY KILLER, BEENIE MAN & MAVADO recently banned from travelling to the United States and many other top artists getting their visas pulled.. concerns about homophobic lyrics have cause gay rights groups to protest and shut down a number of events.  It raises the issue -  should these artists bow to the pressure in order to aquire a Visa and entertain their fans, or stick by their beliefs and continue to speak their minds?  Let us know your thoughts in our COMMUNITY.

(3/30/10)  *Caribbean Queen RIHANNA from Barbados is running it with her hit 'Rude Boy' from her forth studio album 'Rated R.' Its also her 6th number 1 single which makes her the most successful female artist of the last 10 years!  Check out the vid in our Reggae Nation top 10 we love when she rocks it dancehall stylee :)


*KY-MANI MARLEY has a new book out 'Dear Dad' and will be going on a 27-city book tour kicking off April 8th.  The book tells of his "inspiring redemptive story in the face of abandonment" and makes some controversial claims about the Marley family fortune. During the tour Ky-Mani and publisher Dr.Farrah Gray will launch a public awareness campaign to educate the public about the need for African American bone marrow, blood stem cell, and umbilical cord blood donors to join the NMDP Registry.  Ky-Mani's two young sons suffer from sickle cell disease, which led him to establish the "Love Over All" Charity Foundation.  'Dear Dad' book tour dates @ Kymani-Marley.com

(3/7/10)  *MS.TRINITI is heading to Europe & Japan for extensive touring after hitting #1 on the Jamaican charts with "Burnin Burnin" featuring BEENIE MAN.  Her new album 'Warrior Princess' also features hot tunes with VYBZ KARTEL & RIIAN KNIGHT.  Originally from the U.K. & Trinidad, her unique ragga-hop style is taking the dancehall by storm big up Triniti!

*The Jamaica Observer reports that LUTAN FYAH set the crowd on fire with his performance at the Follow Di Arrow show at James Bond Beach in Oracabessa, St Mary.  The audience roared with approval as he chanted, "Whole heap dem caan believe man say Rastafari now!"  2010 will be a huge year for the artist with his single 'Jail' in heavy rotation, the track documents his wrongful arrest and subsequent exoneration in a Jamaican court. He already has four number one singles - 'Rasta Still Deh Bout,' 'Save The Juvenile,' 'St Jago De La Vega' and 'Falling For You.'

(1/19/09)  *Much respect to WYCELF JEAN for bringing some light to his native Haiti in this time of tragedy and so much grief.  Too many lives lost too soon we pray for all the families. (12/16/09)  *'JR GONG' DAMIAN MARLEY and rapper NAS will release their joint album 'Distant Relatives' on March 16th!  The album explores the origins of the deelply-rooted reggae and hip hop genre, tracing both sounds back to African music.  The release will also include a DVD with a panel discussion featuring DJ KOOL HERC, DJ RED ALERT and DADDY U-ROY.



*Sad news out of Miami, FLA where BUJU BANTON aka Mark Anthony Myrie has been jailed on federal drug charges of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute more than five kilograms of cocaine.  The charge carries a mamimum sentence of life in prison.  Buju's attorney said the singer "vigorously denies these allegations" and added "He has a lot of faith in God, he's confident he's going to be exonerated."  Our prayers are with you!

*The great JIMMY CLIFF has been nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!  He will be part of the 2010 inductees also including ABBA, THE HOLLIES, GENESIS and THE STOOGES.  The ceremony will take place on March 15th and air live on FUSE TV. 

(12/6/09)  *The nominees for 2009 Best Reggae Album at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards have been announced and the nominees are:  BUJU BANTON 'Rasta Got Soul,' JULIAN MARLEY 'Awake,' STEPHEN MARLEY 'Mind Control,' GREGORY ISAACS 'Brand New Me' and SEAN PAUL 'Imperial Blaze.'  The Grammys will be held on Sunday, Jan 31st at the Staples Center in Los Angeles..

*The legendary ALPHA BLONDY will arrive in Israel next week to perform for the inaguration of the new Africa Center at Ben Gurion University.   Among the songs he is expected to perform is 'Yitzhak Rabin' which he wrote for the slain Israeli prime minister.  Tamar Golan who invited him said "Alpha Blondy is known in Africa as a hero, a real activist and a fighter against inequality since he began singing against apartheid." 

*The first One Love Reggae Concert winter series will take place at Negril Escape Resort in Jamaica from Nov.17th to March 2nd.  There will be a total of 16 concerts in the series, each headlined by a top reggae act. Artists confirmed include: FREDDIE McGREGOR, SANCHEZ, CHAKA DEMUS AND PLIERS, MARCIA GRIFFITHS, RICHIE SPICE, LUCIANO, TARRUS RILEY, ETANA, QUEEN IFRICA, ALBOROISE and JAH CURE. The shows will be opened by talented upcoming acts mainly from Negril. The promoters said they intend to use the event to enhance the local tourism product in the area of Negril, formerly known as Westend, which has been renamed One Love Drive.

(11/25/09) *Florida's SEAN KINGSTON has been hot all year with hits 'Face Drop' & 'Fire Burning' taking urban pop to the next level and collaborating with the likes of LIL WAYNE and TIMBALAND.. and now he's giving back with a track on 'A Very Special Christmas Vol.7' with proceeds going to benefit the Special Olympics.. support! 

(11/11/09)  *Italian rasta ALBOROISE is making a huge splash with his 'Escape from Babylon' and 'Soul Pirate' albums.  Leaving Italy and all his possessions behind to fully immerse himself in the vibe and culture of Jamaica, he says "My destiny was to follow a journey similar to the early days of many great talents and musical legends before me."  His hit song 'Kingston Town' has made him one of the breakout stars of 2009!

In 2005 Resin Music, Body Glove & Surfing America set out to raise money for the USA Surf Team by releasing a series of benefit CDs. We called the style 'Surf Roots' and the Surf Roots compilations quickly became a staple at surf shops including Sun Diego, Beach Bums & Spyder.. then the Surf Roots Tour emerged and has been running 5 summers strong, and now Surf Roots Radio is bringing the good vibes to the internet...

*DIRTY HEADS and ROME are hitting it big on the radio with "Lay Me Down" stoked for our boys DH!  Rome also got some great news recently with Bud & Eric given the green light to use the name SUBLIME WITH ROME for future touring & recording. No one will ever replace the great Bradley Nowell, but we're looking forward to them bringing the music to a new generation of fans...

(12/16/09)  *Congrats to San Clemente's GREG LONG for winning The Eddie!  The Quiksilver in Memory of Eddie Aikau only runs when Waimea Bay is 25 foot+ and this year on Dec.8th was perfect macking conditions. Greg took home $55,000 and some pretty insane bragging rights.. humble as ever he said afterwards "It really is all about the wave and celebrating the ocean."  Incredible performances were also turned in by RAMON NAVARRO, KELLY SLATER, SUNNY GARCIA, BRUCE IRONS, MICHAEL HO & all 28 surfers who were invited.  EDDIE AIKAU was definately smiling down on his successors, including brother CLYDE AIKAU still in the lineup at age 60!  Eddie would go...

(10/25/09)  *The big news is the reunion of SUBLIME now featuring Rome on lead vocals with Eric & Bud.  Some say it isn't Sublime without Bradley and others are super stoked.. they played the Smokeout this weekend in San Bernadino, CA and the crowd was definately excited to hear the music again but the fight is on over use of the name 'Sublime'..  we'll see what happens!

MAKING HISTORY!

Twelve years strong, Resin Music was founded in 1998 with the vision of creating a positive change in society through music. RM became the west coast home for Reggae, the music seeking unity among people and harmony with the environment. Our first release ISAAC HAILE SELASSIE 'Unite' in 1999 was nominated for Best Reggae Album of the Year by the Beat magazine. Next we released albums from U.K. dancehall star TIPPA IRIE and So Cal's BADFISH, and distributed CDs for EEK-A-MOUSE, HALF PINT, SLIGHTLY STOOPID & more through JDC Records. Then we produced our first major festival - Reggae by the Surf on Oahu, HI and with the footage we created the first ever reggae/surf movie 'Reggae Nation Island Movement' a classic featuring KY-MANI MARLEY, SEAN PAUL, BEENIE MAN, SLIGHTLY STOOPID, LONG BEACH DUB ALLSTARS and pro surfers Sunny Garcia, Kalani Robb & Braden Diaz. The film was nominated for numerous awards. Our next DVD - REGGAE NATION THE REAL SPRING BREAK was filmed at SWAT Spring Break in Rosarito, Mexico starring EEK-A-MOUSE, MR.VEGAS, TIPPA IRIE & BADFISH. Both movies were carried at major retail locations including Best Buy, Circuit City, Tower Records, Wherehouse and Transworld.

In 2001 we created REGGAE NATION TV and have produced RNTV for networks including FOX Sports Net (90 million homes), the ZILO College Network (250 campuses), Reggae Sun/Jamaica and Havoc Video on Demand. Reggae Nation became the "Yo MTV Raps" for reggae, showcasing the stars with an MTV Host and bringing high production multi-media to the scene, formatting content for TV, movies, music videos, commericals and the internet. RNTV has produced videos for superstars STEEL PULSE, CAPLETON, DAMIAN MARLEY, BUJU BANTON, SHAGGY, ALPHA BLONDY, BARRINGTON LEVY, MICHAEL ROSE, YELLOWMAN, ANDREW TOSH & more. We are currently working on a 'Reggae Nation Live' TV special, Reggae Nation Live DVD and new webisodes for this site.

In 2005 RM hooked up with Body Glove and Surfing America to raise money for the USA Surf Team by releasing a series of compliation CDs called SURF ROOTS. The comps feature reggae & rock from STEEL PULSE, SLIGHTLY STOOPID, PEPPER, MICHAEL FRANTI, TREVOR HALL & more who generously donated tracks. The CDs have raised thousands of dollars for the Team, become a favorite at surf shop countertops and spawned the Surf Roots Tour which has included dates with COMMON SENSE, SASHAMON, ANUHEA, THE GREEN, STRANGER, TAMARAMA, THE B FOUNDATION, BALLYHOO & more.. The tour has gone international, Surf Roots DVDs are playing at surf shops and Surf Roots Radio is bumping 24/7. The brand has come to define the music & lifestyle.

Resin Music has helped foster the current reggae & beach music resurgance. We have thrown over 300 live concert events including tours in Hawaii, Japan and Mexico, helped guide the careers of artists such as SASHAMON, TOMORROWS BAD SEEDS, THE B FOUNDATION, OPM & SLACKSTRING, set up worldwide distribution and licensing agreements, and done talent buying for numerous clubs. Today we are hired by companies to execute targeted marketing campaigns due to our huge database and ability to reach the demographic.
